Litter Poster Competition

On Thursday the 10th of May, Councillor Sinéad Dooley, Councillor Tommy Mc Keigue, Litter Warden, Alan Murphy and the County Liaison Officer, Rose O’Keeffe arrived at the school.

They came to present prizes to the children for the recent anti litter poster competition.

Well done to everyone who participated.

A special congratulations to Lucy, Emma and Shauna who all received prizes for their posters.

INTO/EBS Handwriting Competition 2012

 

Children from Ballinamere took part in the INTO/EBS handwriting competition recently. Congratulations to all the children who were involved. We were delighted to have three winners from our school. The winners, parents and teachers attended the presentation ceremony on Thursday 28th March in the Tullamore Court Hotel. Well done to all!

Special Olympics

Sean O’Brien Leinster and Ireland Rugby hero has pledged his support for Special Olympics Ireland’s Collection Day, which will take place throughout Irelandon Friday 27th April 2012. This is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland and is hugely important to the organisation.

Sean O’ Brien is urging people throughout Leinsterto help out on the day by volunteering to collect in their local town for a few hours. Sean O’ Brien said “I am proud to fan the flame for Special Olympics Ireland. Special Olympics athletes are hugely dedicated to their sport and train very hard to be the best they can be. By volunteering to collect on April 27th we will all be showing these athletes just how much we support them”.

Designers!

For the last four weeks the children have been constructing and designing a room. The rooms and furniture have been made out of recycled material such as shoe boxes, cheese boxes etc.  Clay, lollipop sticks, slate, match sticks, jenga blocks, nail varnish containers, and even ear plugs were also used!  This year we had a great selection of rooms -a prison cell, a castle, a number of bedrooms with and without ensuites, sitting rooms, kitchens and even a slatted shed!  A lot of effort was put into the designs. The finished rooms were superb. A selection of the rooms may be viewed below.

“Fast Games” All-Ireland Athletics Final

Heartiest congratulations to the 3rd/4th girls from Ballinamere representing

Offaly who won the All-Ireland Final in Athlone I.T. today. Against very stiff

opposition from Donegal, Laois, Louth, Clare, Meath and Limerick the girls

outdid themselves in a total of 12 track and field events to win the cup!!

Well done Ballinamere. It was a good day for the other Offaly representatives

there – 3rd/4th class boys from Edenderry who came 2nd, 5th /6th class girls

from Ballinagar who came 3rd and 5th/6th class boys from Edenderry who

won. Up the Faithful!

Football Blitz

A few of the girls from fourth, fifth and sixth class competed in a football blitz in Leah Victoria Park on 07/3/12. They played Edenderry, the Gael Scoil, Scoil Mhuire and Clonbullogue. They played very well in four of their matches – they won 3 and tied 1. This left them at the top of the league. They then played Edenderry in the final. The girls played their best but unfortunately lost by 2 points. The players on this team are : Mairead, Clodagh, Rachel, Annie, Ashling, Alice, Katie, Danielle, Clodagh  and Emma.
